2018-19 Family Days are here!

Family Days – the fun, free, and supportive program for families who have children with developmental delays or who are on the autism spectrum – are back with a new schedule beginning September 15. For the 2018-19 year, the program has moved to Saturdays from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

“We’re always striving to meet the needs of our families,” explains Claudia Morales, BSW, the early childhood behavioral health specialist who leads the program. “The feedback we received was that Saturday would better fit in more schedules. In addition, we’ve expanded the parent/caregiver support group to twice a month, with one session which overlaps with the Family Days.” A full schedule is below.

Ms. Morales goes on to explain that the program will continue incorporating more of the activities which parents have requested for their children. This includes sensory play (water, sand, etc.), story time, and outdoor activities. “This year, we’re excited to work with Therapy Dogs International. They’ll bring a certified therapy dog to specified sessions,” Ms. Morales continues. “We are also working with certified child yoga instructors.” Diet sensitive snacks are provided.

“The great thing about Family Days is that our activities are facilitated by special education teachers and social workers who understand the needs of children who have special needs,” says Ms. Morales. “This helps ensure that the children and their family are having a positive experience.”
