The Guidance Center

Services for Latino Children & Families

The Guidance Center offers several programs which respond to the critical and diverse needs of newly immigrated families living in southern Westchester.

The Latina Drop-In Center/Second Cup of Coffee/Madres En Accion

The Latina Drop-In Centers and Second Cup of Coffee provide support and guidance to help Latina mothers address issues such as coping with a new culture, depression, substance or physical abuse, financial burdens, and the challenges of helping their family adjust to both a new community and school. The women share their concerns with their peers and counselors, learn to advocate for their children in school, develop new friendships, and begin the process of addressing problems of isolation, abuse and poverty. In Madres En Accion, the women speak English and work on entrepreneurial projects that can help them along the road to self-sufficiency.

The Second Cup of Coffee is held at Edison School in Port Chester, Tuesday, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. For more information, call Gladys Hernandez, 914-934-7894.

The Latina Drop-In Center is held at Columbus School in New Rochelle, Friday, 8:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Madres En Accion meets on Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at our 70 Grand Street, New Rochelle location. For more information, please contact Ana Martinez, 914-636-4440 x266.

Working in conjunction with Family Ties, we provide assessment, services, child and family treatment and parenting skills training. We also provide referrals to other support services that may be available in the community. Family Unity is funded through a generous grant by Hedge Funds Care. Family Unity is available at our 70 Grand Street, New Rochelle location as well as Edison School in Port Chester, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

For more information, please contact Mara Saumell, 914-381-6110 x106.
