FutureWorks to FutureCareers includes four individual career pathway programs. Participants can take part in one, some or all!
Construction Trainings & Certifications (5 weeks)
Urban Handyperson, hands-on construction training (5 weeks)
Energy Auditor (4 weeks)
CodeWorks,coding, web design, and entrepreneurship course (3 weeks)
program REQUIREMENTS
New Rochelle or Mount Vernon resident
High school or equivalency diploma (if you do not have a high school diploma, we can help you earn a GED or HSE – email us)
Valid drivers license (preferred – NOT required)
Courses and certifications are FREE ($3,000 value) for those who meet the above requirements. If you do NOT meet the requirements, call to discuss options.
CONSTRUCTION TRAININGS & CERTIFICATIONS
Objective: Gain the foundational skills and certifications needed to start a career in the green and general construction industry.
Ideal for: those who want to obtain a job working in field of construction ranging from basic laborer, porter, flaggers, apprenticeships for trade unions, and security, road crew careers. Starting salary potential: $35-45K
Classes: Occupational Safety & Health Administration Training (OSHA-30 hour), Flagger & Scaffolding, CPR/First Aid Training, LEED Green Professional Building Skills Training (G-Pro), and FDNY Prep Course F-01, F-03, F-04 and F-60, 8 HR. & 16 HR. Security Guard training, Fire Guard, G-Pro Green Fundamentals, and Career Development (resume and job search).
Certifications offered: OSHA-30; 4 -hour Supported Scaffold*; 3-hour Flagger*; CPR/AED/ First Aid; GPRO – Fundamentals of Green; Security Guard; Firewatch & Fireguard Certification Test
*These courses are NYC Dept. of Buildings approved
Format: Lectures, discussions, site visits, and option for hands-on learning. 5 weeks. 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday. Ongoing admission. New sessions throughout the year.
URBAN HANDYPERSON
Objective: Gain a basic understanding of work site safety, hand tools, power tools, material handling principles and equipment use, basic blueprint reading and workplace etiquette
Ideal for: those seeking a job as building maintenance, building operator, building mechanic, building engineer, building super, facilities operator, laborer, or entry-level trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry). Starting salary potential: $30-45K
Classes: Building Construction, System & Environment, Building Science (G-Pro O & M), Building Materials, Hand Tools & Power Tools, Material Handling and Hands on Training.
Certifications offered: LEED G-Pro in Operations and Maintenance; Site Safety Card; OSHA-30; 8 Hour Fall Protection; 2 Hour Drug & Alcohol Awareness
Skills building: demolition and construction of a bathroom/kitchen; resume support; interview skills; site visits; job fair
Format: Lectures, discussions, site visits, and the demolition and building a mock kitchen and bathroom. 5 weeks. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday-Friday. Ongoing admission. New sessions throughout the year.
ENERGY AUDITOR
Objective: Gain the foundational skills and trainings needed to be able to identify and prioritizes opportunities for residential or commercial consumers to achieve energy savings through data analysis, visual inspection, and the use of various diagnostic tools.
Ideal for: those who are interested in working for an electrical, energy, or engineering company. Starting salary potential: $30-40K
Classes: 60-hour Small Commercial Energy Efficiency Analyst (SCEEA), Green economy, Lighting systems, HVAC, refrigeration systems
Certifications offered: OSHA-30 • Fall Protection • Drug & Alcohol Awareness • Energy Efficiency • Green Economy • Principles of Lighting Electrical & Lighting • Principles Lighting Audit • Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician (CALT)
Format: Lectures, discussions, site visits, and pre-apprenticeship. 4 weeks. 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday. Ongoing admission. New sessions throughout the year.
CODEWORKS
Objective: Gain basic skills for web design, coding, and entrepreneurial tech skills. Discover ways to develop and promote a personal brand through problem-solving, teamwork, empathy, and using failure as part of the growth process.
Ideal for: those who want to create, develop, and run their own business. The course explores different models of entrepreneurship and how to evaluate risks and rewards.
Classes: Web Wix, Google Suite, LinkedIn, Social Media, Canva
Format: Lectures, discussions, hands-on website development. 3 weeks, 4 hours/day, Monday - Thursday. New sessions throughout the year.
