High School Equivalency

I had a lot of anxiety and stopped going to high school. If it weren’t for these programs and support, I’d probably still be in my room. Take advantage of these opportunities.

This FREE program offers Mount Vernon and New Rochelle youth and young adults (ages 16-24) the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma. Offered in conjunction with Southern Westchester BOCES, a teacher helps students prepare for the HSE/TASC (which replaces the GED) by reviewing math, language arts (reading/writing), science, and social studies.

Participants take part in:

  • Life skills coaching and connections to community resources to help the young person realize their potential and focus on their goals.

  • The Workforce Readiness Curriculum workshops (READI) to develop interpersonal skills, communication skills, and a strong work ethic.

  • Career exploration and job placement based on the young person's interests and abilities.

  • Hands-on work experiences and internships with support from an employment specialist.
