2009 Highlights Pave the Way for Exciting 2010!
We know many people gave a sigh of relief when 2009 came to an end, but at The Guidance Center, we like to look at the bright side of things. Like everyone else, our year had its challenges, but it was also packed with great accomplishments for our clients, our staff and our friends. Here are just a few:

• CBS2-News and The Journal News both ran high-profile stories on our Career Center for Teens in Mount Vernon. The pieces highlighted the accomplishments of the student and staff. In 2009, The Guidance Center helped 52 students develop individualized college and career plans.
• In June, 25 Universal Pre-K students celebrated their growth with a “moving up” ceremony. This marked our first class of UPK students. In September, we welcomed two more classes of eager pre-k learners. Both morning and afternoon classes are at capacity!
• Our Chemical Dependency Treatment Center methadone program received a three-year certification from The Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The three-year certification is the longest accreditation which can be awarded and is a testament to the high-quality of care that clients receive at the center.
• A generous grant from the Frog Rock Foundation helped us launch a new early childhood program, Foundations in Feelings. This program provides much-needed training and consultation services in four childcare centers which serve 376 low-income children and their families. Foundations in Feelings helps change the culture in childcare centers so workers can focus on the children’s successful social-emotional development.
We'll share more highlights, outcomes and good news in our Annual Report!
