Educational & Career Services

Mount Vernon High School

Because of the Center for College & Careers, I was able to get an internship, where I discovered a passion for electrical engineering. One of the biggest turning points in my life.

Housed right within Mount Vernon High School High School, our Center for College & Careers (CCC) provides on-site support and educational guidance to current students (ages 13-21). Participants work with CCC advisors while exploring either college or a vocational career.

High school participants take part in:

  • Life skills coaching to help address daily issues from home, school and/or the community that might be interfering in the student’s ability to focus on their education.

  • Family seminars on topics such as managing college life, leaving home, time management, and financial aid.

  • Academic support by licensed teachers. This includes on-site tutoring in English and math.

  • At least 50 hours of community service, giving participants stronger community integration, exposure to a range of career opportunities in the not-for-profit sector, and real-world experiences for college applications.

  • Financial literacy, FAFSA, and scholarship workshops.

  • College and vocational school exploration with an advisor who works with participants to identify, research, and apply to appropriate colleges which match the participant’s interests and abilities.

  • Local and overnight college tours.

  • Work experiences and internships.

Students celebrate their college acceptances.
Students get to take part in special trips, like this visit to IBM. Here, they are inspecting one of Watson’s buzzers.
